How to burn a Stacks NFT

There may be an occasion where as a creator, you need to burn an NFT. There is a simple and easy way to do this using the following steps.

Once you have connected your wallet to stacks.gamma.io select the hamburger menu located in the top right hand corner, then click on “manage collections.”

You will be redirected to a page showing all the collections you have created. Select the collection that the NFT you would like to burn belongs to. You then need to select the tab named Smart contract.

You will open up a new page with different smart contract functions. Select Advanced functions.

A menu will open up. Select Burn which appears first in the list of smart contract advanced functions. You are then required to input the token ID of the NFT you would like to burn. Please always double check you have the selected the correct collection, and entered the correct token ID. You may then click burn. If you're unsure, the token ID can be found in the URL of the given NFT page.

The wallet transaction will pop up. You are then required to confirm/sign the wallet transaction. Once this transaction confirms on the blockchain, your NFT will be burned, and have no assigned owner.
