How does selling on Gamma work?

Our marketplace is designed to connect buyers and sellers of Bitcoin NFTs. We support two kinds of sales:

  1. The initial sale, or mint, of your own collection of unique digital works.
  2. Secondary marketplace sales, which represent the majority of sales on the marketplace. This type of sale is trading cryptocurrency in exchange for another user’s NFT.

Each secondary sale includes the artist's royalties (a percentage which varies depending on the artist and collection) as well as the marketplace commission. These are shown in a pop-up when you list an asset, letting you know the total amount you'll receive upon sale (listing amount minus artist royalties and market fees).

Buying and selling NFTs securely and indisputably transfers ownership. The ordinals marketplace is built directly on the Layer 1 Bitcoin Blockchain, and Stacks NFTs are powered by Bitcoin, making them highly secure.

How to list an Ordinal

First, connect your Bitcoin wallet. Make sure you select the account that holds the Ordinal you want to sell.

Once connected, click on your profile pill in the top right corner. You'll be taken to your collected Ordinals. Hover over the Ordinal you want to list and click List.

Clicking the List button will open this modal.

You might want to take a look at how the collection is doing and its floor price to help you decide on a list price. Once you've entered your list price, you'll see the amount you'll receive. If you're happy with it, go ahead and click Sign.

That's it, you've listed your Ordinal for sale! You will now see options to unlist it or lower the price.

Note that creating a listing is free, but unlisting requires a payment of network fees. Please head over to this article for more information on why off-chain unlistings without network fees are dangerous and how to unlist an Ordinal.

How to list a Stacks NFT

Once you've connected the wallet you'd like to use, go to your profile to see your collected items.

On beta.gamma.io, click on the Stacks icon on your profile to see your collected Stacks NFTs.

Find the NFT you want to list and click on list.

Enter the list price in the pop-up and review the You Will Receive total before clicking the List button. This shows the amount you will receive once the NFT is sold, minus the creator royalties and market fees.

Your wallet will prompt you to confirm this transaction before it is submitted to be confirmed on the Stacks blockchain.  Once it has been confirmed in an anchor block, your NFT will be able to be bought by users on Gamma's marketplace.

Why can't I list one of my collected items?

In some instances, there will be no list button: the item is not yet tradeable.

There are a few reasons Ordinals are unable to be listed, and it's most commonly a temporary status. Here are the most common reasons that NFTs are marked "Cannot be listed":

  1. The collection is new (most common): When a collection is new, it's possible that the Ordinal has simply not yet been vetted by our team as part of our standard process for all collections. Before collections may be listed, we review the smart contract for user safety and we add the creator royalty commission that is applied when assets are listed. If we haven't yet reviewed the smart contract or we haven't yet received confirmation from the creator in terms of the royalty they would like applied to their Ordinals, the Ordinals may be left in this state briefly. In these cases, the best course of action is to reach out to the creator directly and have them request their collection be approved for listing.
  2. The collection is not allowed to be listed (uncommon): If the collection is found to pose an active risk to harm or mislead users or if it is found to infringe on another's copyright or intellectual property, we may prevent the collection's items from being listed. This is a last resort option and only occurs when it is in the best interest of user safety or legal requirements. Please note that if an item cannot be listed on our platform, this does not preclude your continued holding, transfer, or usage of outside our platform.
  3. The collection is not supported by our marketplace (uncommon): While we make every effort to display all items in your wallet, there could be rare cases where the creator did not include standard functions to list and trade your Ordinal. In these cases, it's possible your Ordinal is not listable by any standard method.
